Uncovered BMX Stop Two

While digging through our video archives from this past year and continuing with our theme of back-posting, we also noticed that the second stop from the Uncovered BMX contest was absent. That simply won’t do, so here’s a look back at the second stop of the series.

The second stop of the Uncovered BMX contest series took place at The Wheel Mill in Pittsburgh, PA on Sunday, February, 25th. The event included special judges, announcers, and of course, a ton of wild riding. The event also helped catapult ‘Mad Mike’ Guth into the wild card spot at the Battle Of Hastings.

Intermediate – 1st – Maxx Corbett, 2nd – Ryan Sanborn, 3rd – Tyler Cramer

Animal Bikes Philadelphia

While we were digging through the archives in search of material for our annual year-end list of the top 12 videos of the year, this one was notably missing so here it is in the name of good archiving. Better late than never right?

Back in August, Animal Bikes dropped a five and a half minute video online titled ‘Animal Bikes Philadelphia’ shot entirely in the City of Brotherly Love. The video was filmed by Justin Benthien and includes riding from Ben Lewis, Augie Simoncini, Chase Dehart, Matt Miller, ‘Mad Mike’ Guth, and more. The video also serves as an introduction to Animal’s latest pro, Johnny Raekes.

Retrospective: The Final Street Series

The Street Series was originally started in the U.K. by Tom Creasy, DUB BMX, and Monster Energy. In its six-year lifespan, The Street Series grew from an idea into a globally recognized event staged in cities around the world and held in support of BMX Day. The final Street Series took place on Saturday, July 22, 2017, and was hosted in Melbourne, Moscow, Paris, London, San Diego, and Philadelphia. Dan Lacey returned to host the event in Philadelphia for the second year in a row, and with the assistance of Matt Miller and the Chocolate Truck crew, guided the crowd of hundreds of BMX riders from spot to spot through the neighborhoods of North Philadelphia.

One year later, we reconnected with some of the locals that were in attendance as well as our contributing photographers, Sam Downs, Frank Ashbridge, and Kyle Dipilla, for a look back at the final Street Series in Philadelphia. Frank Ashbridge also edited together some previously unseen footage that he filmed during the 9th and Poplar stop of The Street Series.

We hope you enjoy.

Photo Gallery: Kink X Berks Street Jam

On Saturday, October 14th, 2017, the Kink BMX crew including Matt Miller, Tony Hamlin, Joe Niranonta, Jake Petruchik, Casey Starling, Breyon Woods (Bdub), and Kink video producer Darryl Tocco rolled through the streets of Philadelphia for a jam co-hosted with the Berks Street BMX Shop. The Kink crew was met with near perfect weather and an anxious crowd of BMX riders ready to throw down. The event made use of an empty parking lot at the John H. Webster Elementary School located across the street from the shop. A makeshift street course was assembled using a number of moveable obstacles including several rails and boxes, a bolted down pole jam, and even a fence for the afternoon. Shout-out to Gene Barclay for shooting the event on our behalf, Steve at Berks Street for constantly working to bring the BMX community in the Philadelphia area together and the Kink crew for always supporting the Philly scene.
